Smith Races in Front of Hometown Fans: USRA at Thunder Hill Raceway Kyle, Texas (April 23, 2005) – Casey Smith had high expectations going into the USRA Super Late Model event at Thunder Hill Raceway. Located just 21 miles from his Austin home, Smith has had much success at the 3/8 mile oval in Legends and Late Model classes. Casey has also been seen at the track shaking down his #19 ASA Dodge last season. Smith’s home-town fans were excited to see him back at the track and back in the Super Late Model. Coming out of turn two on lap 26, the #99 Rapid Disposal Chevrolet suddenly took a nose dive. Sparks were flying from the right front as the right front tire flew 10 feet up into the air. The #99 came to rest in the grass outside the back stretch. The wrecker brought the injured car into the pits where the team discovered the right front steel hub had broken into two pieces. The body on the entire right side was peeled back and Smith’s night was done. Smith finished a disappointing 18th. The team will work on repairing the car for the next USRA event at Corpus Christi Motor Speedway on Saturday, May 14, 2005.
