Casey Smith Returns to USRA in Corpus

AUSTIN, TX (July 26, 2005) -- Casey Smith is set to compete this weekend in the United States Racing Association (USRA) Super Late Model event at Corpus Christi Speedway.  Smith will pilot his family-owned #99 Chevrolet Monte Carlo sponsored by Rapid Disposal.

Smith comes off a third place finish at the ¼ mile asphalt oval where he competed in the event just two months ago.  Smith qualified on the outside pole, but after the inversion, he started sixth.  Smith was strong, but ran out of laps and took the third place finish behind race winner Cory Roper and veteran driver Tommy Grimes.

Casey Smith and his team took the late model to Thunderhill Speedway in Kyle, Texas last Sunday to practice and try a few different things to get the extra edge he needs to finish in the top spot this weekend.

“I tried a few things on the car and learned a lot that will help not only in Corpus, but at all of the tracks we will go to.” Smith said.  “We took it back to the shop, and put on the set-up for Corpus, it is ready to go.”

Smith has been busy traveling back and forth from his shop in Austin to the Turner Motorsports headquarters in Hallettsville, Texas to prepare his #51 NASCAR Southeast Series car for the next event at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on August 13th.
