Smith and Teammate Finish One, Two at Corpus

AUSTIN, TX (August 1, 2005) – Casey Smith recorded his season best finish Saturday night at Corpus Christi Speedway.  Smith’s second place finish is one spot better than his previous run at Corpus just two months ago.

Smith qualified 6th, but with the top-six drivers drawing for position, Smith started 3rd, inside his NASCAR Southeast Series teammate Chris Davidson.

At the drop of the green flag, pole sitter JC Umscheid was fast and quickly got a jump on Bradley Reithmeyer, defending series champion.  Smith was tight going into the first corner and Chris Davidson got the edge on Smith early on.

On lap 74, Smith followed his teammate past the second place car and was riding in the third position while the leader was running away through lap traffic.  Smith was slowly closing in on the #41 of Davidson, but lap traffic made it hard to make the pass.

On the last lap of the USRA.com 125, the top-two cars got together due to a slow lap car.  Davidson was able to get around the leader who couldn’t save it and was in the grass.  Smith finished second behind his Southeast Series teammate Chris Davidson.

“I would have loved a win tonight, but if I had to run second to someone, I’m glad it’s Chris,” Smith said.  It is great for us to run one, two here tonight.  I hope we can repeat that at the next Southeast Series race at Greenville.”

Casey’s next event will be in the NASCAR Auto Zone Elite Southeast Series August 13th at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, South Carolina.  Smith will be testing this week at Greenville-Pickens to gain information to prepare both Turner Motorsports teams for the event.
