Casey Smith Looks to Win Again at San Antonio

Austin, Texas (October 5, 2006) -- It’s been over a month since Casey Smith and the #9 Gary Buchanan Homes/Rapid Disposal Chevrolet has seen the race track, but the action in the Smith Racing shop in Austin, Texas hasn’t slowed down a bit.  Casey has been working away on the red #9 for this weekends running of the USRA Super Late Model “Octoberfast” 150 at San Antonio Speedway.

The 21-year old and his race team were in the spotlight at the beginning of the 2006 season.  Casey won the USRA season-opener at San Antonio Speedway by leading all 125 laps, then went on to claim the checkers at the second scheduled event at Thunderhill Raceway.  It looked as if Casey would again take the checkers in the next USRA event at San Antonio Speedway, when he took the lead at lap 7 and lead 101 of the 125 lap event.  But with 17 laps to go, Casey was forced to the pits with a broken axle.

The past two runs at the fast ½ mile have not been as successful.  Casey and his team have faced some challenges with the #9, but are hoping to regain their form this weekend.  Casey is ready to return to the spotlight by finishing these last 2 races of the season the same way he started them, with two wins.

“We had two awesome races at San Antonio Speedway this season,” Casey said.  “This #9 team needs something to turn our luck around.  Hopefully this week-end will be just the thing we need.  I am hoping to end the season the way I started it – a win at San Antonio and Thunderhill.”
