  Texas' Casey Smith Dominates Again

(Austin, Texas)  July 30, 2007 - The question in the pits Saturday night at the Diamond Back 125 Super Late Model Event at South Alabama Speedway, in Opp, Alabama would be if anyone had anything for the #99 of Casey Smith.  Casey dominated the first Viper Series race back in May, setting quick time and taking the checkers.  If qualifying was any indication, the answer would be “NO.”  Casey was again fastest time laying down a lap of 15.593 bettering the rest of field by almost a tenth.

“Things are just going our way right now,” said Casey.  “You’ve got short track veterans, Wayne Anderson, Freddie Query and Mike Garvey in the pits, they are tough every where they go.  I think we have figured out a little something, but you can lose that as fast as you figured it out, racing is always changing.  Hopefully we can stay on top of our game.”

Casey quickly jumped into the lead from his inside front row starting position and never looked back, dominating the 125 lap event.

The first caution flag of the evening fell on lap 110, then another on lap 112, another on lap 115, and the final caution flag waived at lap 119.  “They do not count yellow flag laps here,” Casey expressed.  “It’s really more like a 175 lap event, counting all the yellow flag laps.  I was edgy there at the end when all those cautions kept waiving, my right front tire was going down, and my Dad radioed me that only eight cars were on the lead lap and half of them came in for tires.”  But when the field finally settled and the final green flag of the evening dropped Casey pulled away from the field to take the checkers, winning over a six second margin.
