Opp, AL - This was Casey Smith's Race

(Austin, Texas)  September 10, 2007 - The Viper Series #3 Super Late Model Event at the South Alabama Speedway was dominated by one team from start to finish.  After pacing practice and obliterating the field by leading all of the scheduled 125 laps, Casey scored win number three in the series.

"It was a great day.  When we unloaded this afternoon for practice I knew we had a good car.  Once night fell, our car got even better.  You never know when it's going to be your race these days," Casey said.

His race it was.  His No. 99 Gary Buchanan Custom Homes/Rapid Disposal Chevrolet crossed the finish line nearly 4 seconds ahead of the second place car of Jason Hogan.  Casey was fast in qualifying, posting the 2nd quickest lap against a strong 21-car field.   Starting on the outside front row, Casey passed pole sitter Grant Enfinger on the outside and steadily began pulling away from the rest of the field.

The race stayed caution-free for most of the first half and Casey was pacing his laps and saving his tires for when it mattered at the end.   With the long green flag run, Casey lapped up to the 8th place car in the field when the caution flew.  The remainder of the field knew that Casey was the car to beat. Unable to gain position on track, most used a 2-tire pitstop to make up ground.  However, the competition's strategy didn't hold out long.  On lap 100 Casey had gained over a straight-away lead on the field.  Basically, that's all they had, two more cautions flew with 15 laps to go, gathering the field together, but on each restart Casey pulled away demonstrating the race was his.

Jason Hogan, Jason Young, Donald Long and Grant Enfinger closed out the top five.  Cory Ruble claimed sixth while Texas driver Chris Davidson charged back after early troubles to grab the seventh spot.  Ryan Sieg, Richard Fincher and David Hodges complete the top 10.
