Casey Smith Looks to be Crowned Mobile Series Champion & Preps for 40th Annual Snowball Derby (Austin, TX) 10/11/07 - When fans look at the top of the current Mobile International Speedway Miller-Lite Super Late Model series, an unfamiliar name has been there throughout the season. That name was unfamiliar perhaps until this year. Austin, Texas native Casey Smith is that name and the driver leading the standings going into this weekend’s season finale, the Lee Fields Memorial 100. It’s a position that Smith has become accustomed to after having a third place finish as his worst finishing position, including one win in three series starts building a 110 point lead over his nearest competitor. “Mobile has been great to us this year and it would be pretty special to go there this weekend, take the win, and be crowned the series champion all in the same night. There is a lot of history there built up over the years and I hope that I am lucky enough to make my own mark in the history books,” said the twenty-two year old Smith. The weekend however will be a busy one for Smith as he will first travel to Pensacola, Florida to test Thursday afternoon in preparation for the 40th Annual Snowball Derby and if all goes well Smith will compete at the 5 Flags Speedway in the fifth and final round of the blizzard series Friday night. Smith will be testing a different setup, one that will be new to the team in hopes of gaining the speed necessary to compete for the $25,000 check that will be awarded to the derby winner on December 2nd. “We decided to leave a few days early to get to Pensacola and see if we can make our car better on the rougher and more abrasive tracks. We just can’t get the grip we would like at Pensacola so we decided if we were even going to think about coming to the derby we had to make our car better so that’s what we plan to do,” said Smith.
