A Season of Frustration Continues for Casey Smith Amidst High Hopes

Austin, TX 6/2/08- If you were to compare Casey Smith’s 2007 season to his year this year, there would probably be very little in common other than having the same #99 upon the side of his Rapid Disposal/Gary Buchanan Custom Homes/ BES Equipment Sales Monte Carlo race car. Smith, over the last two weeks, hit bad luck once again as he posted a tenth place finish after grabbing the pole at Mobile International Speedway on May 24th followed by a seventeenth place finish after qualifying twelfth at a rain postponed Blizzard series race at Five Flags Speedway May 30th.

Rain and lightning postponed Blizzard race number two at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida until the following week May 30th. So it was off to Mobile where Smith looked to be on his way to another Miller Lite super late model series victory when North Carolina racer Jeff Fultz took the Texas native out on a restart ending his night while leading. This disappointing return to the track was like déjà vu as the last time Casey was at Mobile in April he was taken out by a lapped car who made the mistake of ending Casey’s night when he was after fellow competitor Donald Long who also happens to be #99.

“This year has been real tough for us so far. Last year at Mobile we had consistent runs which allowed us to capture the championship but this is a whole new year and we are having trouble even seeing the end of these races sometimes. If someone didn’t really know about Casey Smith Racing and just looked at our results you would say these guys have a long ways to go before they are a threat every time they show up. But I know how good this team is and what we are capable of, it’s just other guys messes that have cost us so far,” stated Smith.

The Casey Smith Racing team then traveled some 689 miles back to the Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida just a week after inclement weather delayed the second Blizzard race of the season to May 30th. It was a short night come race time when Casey was forced to park his #99 machine early in the event with a broken rear end resulting in a seventeenth place finish.

Unfortunately for Smith the task will not be getting any easier as he will travel to the South Alabama Speedway in Opp, Alabama on June 21st to take part in the second race of the four race Viper miniseries at the track. While over the last few races at different tracks around the Southeast it seemed like Casey Smith has had a target on his back, now at South Alabama he actually will. Track owner/promoter John Dykes has put a $500 per race bounty on any competitor who can beat Smith at the 4/10 mile oval.
