Story Book Night for Casey at Mobile International Speedway Turns into a Nightmare

Austin, Texas – April 14, 2008 - The defending Miller Lite Super Late Model Series Champion Casey Smith picked up where he left off by taking the Lynch Tree Service Pole award with a time of 17.126. With the drop of the green flag Smith quickly set sail on the field of 30 super late models. With a comfortable 10-car length lead Smith was on cruise control picking up the Lynch Tree Service Halfway Leader award.

With 68 laps in the books, it looked like the Austin, Texas native was well on his way to another victory at Mobile International Speedway. On lap 68, Pearland, Texas’ Greg Davidson took a nasty spin on the backstretch taking out a 10 foot section of the inside guardrail and landing on top of an inside light pole embankment. After going most of the night caution free, the lap 68 caution would set off a series of cautions and restarts that would ultimately turn a story book night for Smith into a nightmare.

After a spin off of turn 2 Alabama’s Danny Bagwell was bringing his car back on to the track. Bagwell’s damaged machine slammed into the side of leader, Casey Smith, tearing away the right side of Smiths car ending his shot at the win.
