Austin, TX 3/2/10- Casey Smith will get his 2010 racing season started the same way he has for the last several years now, by competing in the annual Rattler 250 weekend at the South Alabama Speedway. Smith, who is a former super late model Viper series champion at the track, has had plenty of success over the years at the 4/10th mile facility, but winning the track’s biggest event has eluded him thus far in his career.
“I love kicking the season off with a big race it just gets you all pumped up about the entire year and if you can happen to have a good showing or maybe step into victory lane in the season opener it can set the tone for your year,” said Smith. “We’ve had all winter to work on our cars and have been ahead of schedule as far as getting what we wanted done to them so for now we are just kind of waiting for this weekend to roll around.”
Smith’s wait will be over soon enough as track activity starts this Thursday at the South Alabama Speedway with the 250 lap main event set to go off Sunday afternoon. With the race just being days away and a recent test behind the wheel of a pro late model truck at Thunder Hill Speedway, Casey has been boiling with fire to get back behind the wheel of his own #99 machine in competition.
“After getting behind the wheel I was like I can’t wait to get back to racing again. There just isn’t a whole lot going on for me besides work in the winter. I just love racing and it’s what I think about all the time. Hopefully we can have a better year in 2010 because I would really like to get a win at Pensacola (Five Flags Speedway). I would have to stay that’s my number one goal for this year is to grab a win there,” added Casey.
